From the given figure, we know that angle on a straight line add up to 180 degrees

i.e. x + y = 180. ------ (1)

It is given in the question that x : (x+y) = 2 : 5

I.e. x/(x+y) = ⅖ ----- (2)

Substituting eqn 2 in 1, we get,

x/180 = ⅖

5x = 180 x 2 = 360

Therefore, x = 72.

Now, from equation 1, we can say that, y = 180 - x = 180 – 72 = 108.

We must find the value of 360 - y.

i.e 360 – 108 = 252

Hence, the right answer is 252.

If you had chosen option A, it is possible that you misunderstood the required value to be 360 = x instead of 360 -y.

If you had chosen option B, then you may have stopped the calculation one step earlier and calculated the value of y instead the value of 360 -y.

180 – y is not same as 360 – y and so option d) cannot be the answer.
