February to April
GRE® Preparation
If you are targeting a score of 320+, start your GRE® preparation in February or March. Spend 1-2 hours & learn about 40-50 GRE® words/day. Also start your IELTS/TOEFL® preparation simultaneously.
May
Take GRE® & IELTS/TOEFL®
After at least 3 months of preparation, take your GRE® and IELTS/TOEFL® in the month of May. In case you are not satisfied with the obtained score, you can retake the GRE® in 14 days (which you should try & avoid since the exam fee can take a toll on your pockets)
June
Course Research & Shortlist Universities
Start researching about the courses in your field of interest. Also shortlist universities as Safe, Achievable and Ambitious based on your GRE® score and profile.
July
SOP & LOR
Understand what the universities expect & start working on your SOP. Also, shortlist people from whom you require LORs and allocate adequate time for their review. Most universities require 3 LORs for MS programs so make sure you select the right referees!
August
Collect Transcripts & Finalize Documents
Collect your academic transcripts from your college based on the university requirements. Make sure you have all the documents according to the checklist before uploading or sending them. Always review and recheck.
September
Upload Documents
Check the university websites to understand where & how to submit your documents. Ensure you haven’t missed out on even the minute details.
November to January
Fall Deadlines
The Fall deadlines of top universities commence in November and go on till the month of January. But you should be ready with all the documents needed to complete your application by at least October to target the priority deadlines.

Financial Documents
As soon as you get an admit, you can get started on preparing your Financial Documents. The sanctioning process might take time depending on various factors. Note that these play an important part in your visa approval process, so it's always best to start early.
When Documents are ready
VISA
As soon as your financial documents (& other required docs) are ready you can book a slot for your VISA interview. Review all the documents you'll have to carry with you and check with the official website of the embassy for details pertaining to the visa process.
As you can see, your admissions process involves not 1, not 2 but several steps.
Hence if you complete your GRE® early, you can concentrate on your application process such as craft an admit-winning SOP, hassle-free.
If you don't want to go through the additional stress of rushing at the last minute, start early.
