GRE Mock Test Online

Free GRE® Practice Test

The GRE is a test that needs methodical practice. It is not the kind where you take one mock test and consider yourself ready for the actual GRE. The questions asked in the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections can be tricky. You need to inculcate specific skill sets to ace them. At AdmitEDGE, we have been training our students for the GRE for more than a decade now. Based on this experience, this is the order in which you take tests in the AdmitEDGE free Mock Test Pack for your GRE® prep:

  1. Diagnostic Test which tests your current level of preparedness for the GRE. A good analysis of your performance in this test gives you profound insights on your strong and weak areas. It helps you understand the areas you need to focus on and prepare systematically.
  2. Short practice tests following every Verbal or Quant lesson. As soon as you learn something, you immediately test yourself on the learning. At this stage, you focus only on strengthening your learning and improving your skills and not worry about time.
  3. Separate style tests imparted for Verbal and Quant. We call them the “style tests” to mean that the test pattern, questions, timing, are all similar to the actual GRE, except that the Verbal and Quant sections are administered separately. You can first take up a one-hour Verbal test, which closely mimics the actual GRE. You can focus on completing the entire Verbal section within one hour, as in the actual test. You get personalized feedback for your performance from your counselors and also have your doubts clarified. And, whenever you are ready, you can work on the Quant Style Test in a similar fashion. There are a number of style tests for GRE Verbal and GRE Quant that let you build a strong foundation in each of the sections, before you are ready for the GRE mock test.
  4. GRE mock tests or the full-length GRE tests in our Learning Tracker mimic the actual GRE test pattern. They are adaptive tests, where the difficulty level of Section 2 is determined by your performance in Section 1. They are timed tests with an online calculator and other paraphernalia, where the interface closely resembles the actual GRE with the Verbal, Quant, and Analytical Writing sections. These tests simulate the real GRE experience for you in the best manner possible. There are a number of carefully-designed GRE mock tests as part of our test-prep programs. For every test, you get personalized feedback together with learning material and tips for improvement.

Importance of Taking GRE® Practice Tests

When preparing for the GRE® general test, regular practice in a GRE-like environment is the key to success. One of the best ways to prepare is to attempt the GRE® test questions in GRE® tests conducted online as they allow you to:

  1. Get familiar with the test software.
  2. Increase your speed and accuracy.
  3. Help you pick up time management strategies.

Remember it is not enough to master your Verbal and Quantitative skills alone, you also need to learn how to apply them when you are under immense time pressure. All the GRE® mock tests administered by AdmitEDGE allow you to get an understanding of the test structure, letting you build the best strategy to perform your best.

Familiarity with Test Software

When taking the computer-adaptive GRE® online test, you should be familiar with the following features of the test software:

  1. The on-screen calculator.
  2. The ‘mark for review’ option.
  3. The changes in the UI layout for various types of questions including:
    1. Analytical writing
    2. Multiple-choice
    3. Multi-selection
    4. Numeric entry and
    5. Select in-passage type questions

AdmitEDGE's GRE® mock tests not only replicate the test software you would see on the test day, but also offer you sophisticated GRE® practice test questions to ensure that you are completely comfortable with the test.

Increasing Speed & Accuracy

  1. To get a high score on the GRE® test, you should be able to answer questions quickly without losing accuracy.
  2. Our mock tests help you achieve this by sharing the average time taken by other students to answer a question. This helps you compare your performance with that of your peers and determine the question types for which you need to find quicker techniques or practice more for speed.
  3. AdmitEDGE's online GRE® mock tests also share the average accuracy achieved by test-takers for a given question. This acts as a benchmark for you to measure against.
  4. The GRE® verbal mock tests and GRE® quant mock tests that are delivered separately follow the GRE® test pattern as closely as possible. These focused tests enable you to test your abilities in each section individually, before taking up the full-length GRE® test online

Time Management

  1. As with speed and accuracy, even to develop time management strategies our students have realized the value of taking the GRE® Verbal mock tests and GRE® Quant mock tests separately. Remember, if you can manage your time in each section well – your overall time management in the GRE® test will automatically improve.
  2. While you will have to develop your own time management strategies, they will include aspects like the following:
    1. Which questions to prioritize when attempting a section
    2. Which questions to answer first – for example, should you attempt GRE® Reading Comprehension first or the Text Completion questions first?
    3. How much time to allot for each question type
  3. As you take up more and more GRE® practice tests, you will develop a sense of timing. That is, you would know when to give up on a question and move on to the next after simply guessing an answer. You would also know which questions to mark for review and which one to simply give up and move on, after making an intelligent guess.
  4. Full-length GRE® mock tests would also help you develop the mental and physical stamina needed to tackle an intense 2-hour exam.

How many GRE® mock tests should you take?

  1. Remember the GRE® mock tests are a part of your GRE® preparations, and not the only thing that you should rely on.
  2. You can take as many mock tests as you need to become familiar with the exam.
  3. If you are working with a 1 to 3-month practice window, it is ideal to take four GRE® mock tests – not counting the Diagnostic Test you take to set the baseline.

What type of GRE® mock tests should you take?

  1. GRE® is a computer-adaptive test. This means that the difficulty level of the second subsection in both Verbal and Quantitative sections are determined by your performance in the first subsection.
  2. It is not advisable to begin with the adaptive format in the early stages of your GRE® prep practice tests early in your GRE® prep, as you may not even face the more difficult questions, if your performance is not up to mark in the first subsection.
  3. At AdmitEDGE, we always advise our students to start with the non-adaptive GRE® mock tests first. Once you are considerably thorough, you can shift to the adaptive GRE® mock test.
  4. This way, you get a good opportunity to better identify your areas of strengths/weaknesses early on and your GRE® test prep becomes more efficient.

Sample GRE® Practice Question with Answer

Ques 1: A rectangle has a perimeter of 20 units. Quantity A: Area of the rectangle. Quantity B: 25 sq units. Which one of these options is true?

Options:

A. Quantity A is greater than B.
B. Quantity B is greater than C.
C. The two quantities are equal.
D. The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

Explanation:

The Answer is D, the relationship cannot be determined from the information given. For Quantitative Comparison questions, it’s always better to start with what’s given. Since we know that the perimeter is 20, let us substitute the formula for 20.Therefore, 2 x (l + b) = 20 and (l + b) = 10. Since there are no restrictions on the values of l & b, from this equation, we can deduce the possible combinations which will produce the result as 10. Therefore, 1 + 9 = 10 ; 2 + 8 = 10; 3 + 7 = 10: 4 + 6 = 10; 5 + 5 = 10. Now, let’s calculate Quantity A i.e. the area of the rectangle with these possible combinations. The possible areas are l x b = 1 x 9 = 9 ;l x b = 2 x 8 = 16;l x b = 3 x 7 = 21;l x b = 4 x 6 = 24 and l x b = 5 x 5 = 25. Now, coming to Quantity B, which is 25 sq. units. Since, we cannot zero in on any particular number for Quantity A, we cannot determine the relationship between Quantity A & Quantity B. Hence, the right answer is Option D. If you had chosen Option B, it is possible that you may have missed out on including 5 x 5 = 25 in your calculation. Remember, a square is also a special type of rectangle that has four sides of equal length.
